Article Directories – 6 Of The Best

Article directories are websites which contain a large number of user submitted articles. This benefits the site owner who gets free content regularly posted to the site and it benefits the article writer because they can get a free link back to their website.
The key is to write a good article that someone will want to read and provide them a link back to your SITE. Whenever somebody reads your article displayed on directories, the link encourages readers to go to your site. Getting people to your site is the goal.
This visibility on the directories also makes it easier for search engines to index the article.
I think a good way to submit articles is manually to a select few directories.
You can purchase an article submitter program that can automatically submit the articles to hundreds of directories, but there are some problems with this as listed below:
- Google has a duplicate content filter which discounts pages that contain large amounts of similar content, hence Google will probably only count a handful of them. There are programs that spin the article to make it more unique for different directories, but you still only get a few versions. Also, some of the spinning programs will just make the article into garbage.
- The price and time it takes to set up.
- A number of the more popular directories have started making the links nofollow, which means that there is now very little point in submitting to these directories because the search engines don’t follow to your site. Therefore it makes more sense to only submit your articles to a) the directories that have the best authority in Google and b) that give you a normal dofollow link.
Below you will find the top 5 dofollow article directories, selected for authority, traffic and ease of getting an article accepted. There may be others, but these are the one’s I’ve chosen.
1. EzineArticles – Page Rank 6
One of the original directories and arguably still the best. The format and website has changed very little in the last 10 years. They do have quite a strict approval process and you can’t submit any scrap and hope to get it accepted as every article gets reviewed. They have some great tools to edit and manage your articles in the backend, and they give you stats like how many times the article has been viewed and how many times the author bio link has been clicked.
2. GoArticles – Page Rank 4
This is a great place to submit your articles because it automatically approves your articles. Although you can’t have links within the body of the article you can include one in the author bio. It doesn’t have quite the same authority as other directories, but it’s a very easy link back to your website so you should definitely submit an article here. GoArticles has been around for nearly 10 years which counts for a lot in search engines like Bing, so if you submit keyword targeted articles it could get a good ranking.
3. ArticleDashboard – Page Rank 5
This article directory became popular because they decided to give away the software that powered their site for free. As a result tens of thousands of people visited and linked to the site, helping boost the pagerank and authority. Just like EzineArticles there is an approval process for your articles, so you have to ensure you submit something which adds quality and informs the reader.
4. Buzzle – PageRank 6
This is a great article directory to submit to if you can get your article approved. Unlike most other directories, Buzzle allows you to include in-content links, which many SEO analysts say is worth more than a single link on its own. The approval time for an article can take a while, but it’s worth submitting to because it has a very good authority.
5. Article City – Page Rank 6
Nearly nine years old, this website has barely changed since it was first built, however it has continued to increase in PageRank over the years, and not to mention the authority. They have a strict approval process, but there is no back end to manage your articles – it’s a very basic setup! I don’t even remember getting an ‘approved’ email, so they might not even notify when your article has been accepted.
6. Isnare – Page Rank 6
This is an interesting spin on article directory submissions and I’ve included it because there might be some people who can afford the service. Although it is free to submit an article to iSnare (and you should since it has a really good authority in Google), the real benefit is in the article distribution service. Isnare has teamed up with a number of publishers who will publish your article and include a link back to your site – plus these sites get tons of traffic so you can probably get a lot of referral traffic coming to your site. Distributing your articles can cost $2 per article, but the costs reduce if you buy in bulk. However, given the exposure you might get, it could prove to have a very good ROI – just ensure you have a tracking system in place to see if it has improved your bottom line!
So don’t just write an article and leave it sitting on your blog or post it only on social media. Use these sites I listed and get more exposure for your article and drive traffic to your site. If you have great content people will want to see what else you have to offer. Build relationships and build your list.
